Indonesian Economy Could Go Top 10










Australian Trade Minister, Craig Emerson, optimistic Indonesia will enter the ranks of the top ten global economy. So, Australia exploitthe potential of Indonesia is to immediately enhance bilateraleconomic cooperation.

"Indonesia's economy, with a population of 234 million people,growing rapidly and could reach the world top ten position in2025," Emerson said in a statement to VIVAnews, Sunday, April 17, 2011. "As the two largest economies in Southeast Asia,Australia and Indonesia have a great opportunity to strengthen andexpand our economic relationship,"said Emerson.

So, according to a spokesman for the Australian Embassy, RayMarcelo, Emerson will visit Jakarta on April 19 to 20 next. He willtalk with Indonesian Trade Minister Mari Pangestu, in preparation for both countries to negotiate a Comprehensive EconomicPartnership Agreement (CEPA).

During a visit to Jakarta in November last year, according toEmerson, the Prime Minister Julia Gillard and President SusiloBambang Yudhoyono agreed to launch the process of CEPA inNovember last year.

In addition to CEPA talks, both Ministers will discuss Indonesia's ratification of the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement-Australia-New Zealand (AANZFTA) and the Doha Round of multilateral trade negotiations.

The two ministers also will discuss the finalization of pilot projectsdesigned to help Indonesia improve the performance of breedingcows. Emerson warned, Indonesia is the fourth largest market forAustralian agricultural exports, after Japan, China and the U.S.. In2009-10, the value of trade between Australia and Indonesiareached A $ 11.8 billion.
